SEPTEMBER 6th, 2014
Making music education exciting and relevant for our students is a goal we all have in common. Your organization, MMEA, is looking at ways to accomplish this in the most effective manner for you and your students. We’ve been working on making this possible and now we need your help to see that our course, is your course.
In reviewing our current handbook and practices we have found there are inconsistencies and contradictions that need to be revised in order for us to achieve our goals. We recognize the need to be inclusive and transparent.
This is important work we can not accomplish without you. This will be a great opportunity for you to get involved at your district level, in an effort to support your students and your organization through music education.
Our first step will be to update our handbook to ensure that we are operating in a manner appropriate to a corporate entity. To achieve this goal, we will need to apply with the State of Maine to officially incorporate our professional organization. We have begun the process of revising our handbook. Please contact your district chair with any questions or suggestions you would have to help implement this process. You can find a copy of our current handbook on the MMEA website, www.mainemmea.org. You will be notified through your district chairs and the website when a draft our revised handbook is ready for review.
Thank you for being an engaged and active member of MMEA.
Special thanks to Michael Butera, Executive Director & CEO of NAfME for his time with the MMEA Board and his guidance as we start this process!
